Viennese Coffee

January 1, 2007

To bring the taste of Vienna home, you can always whip up a classic “Viennese Coffee”. Like so many coffee drinks, it has many variations, but this fabulously fattening, devilishly rich seems just the thing when the mood says, “indulge.”

  Viennese Coffee

Ingredients:
2 tablespoons heavy cream
2 ounces chopped semisweet chocolate
2 cups (16 ounces) freshly brewed Dunkin’ Donuts coffee
GARNISH: whipped cream, about 2 tablespoons per serving, and ground cinnamon, just to color the cream, about ¼ teaspoon.

Directions:
In a medium sized heavy saucepan, mix together the heavy cream and chocolate and cook over low heat, stirring frequently until the chocolate is melted and smooth. (This can also be done in the top of a double boiler.) Slowly whisk in the hot freshly-brewed coffee until all is incorporated. Pour into cups and top, as desired, with the cream and a dusting of cinnamon.

Mix the heavy cream and chocolate in a medium heavy saucepan. Place over low heat and cook, stirring frequently, until the chocolate is melted and smooth. Slowly whisk in the hot coffee. Pour into cups and top with whipped cream and cinnamon.

YIELD: 2 generous servings
