Smuckers Being Sued For Deceiving Consumers

Published on: October 25, 2003

Looks like Smuckers may be busted for deceiving consumers about their “simply 100 percent” labeled jam. A woman claiming to have a “sensitive palate” filed suit against the company after having the jam tested when it didn’t taste right.

The tests proved her right and revealed that the Smucker’s strawberry jam contained less than 30 percent actual strawberries and the blueberry version contained less than 43 percent berries. Other ingredients in the jam are fruit syrup, lemon juice concentrate, fruit pectin, red grape juice concentrate and natural flavors.

The woman’s attorney feels that thousands of other consumers will be refunded at least one dollar as a result of the law suit, or the company will be forced to contribute the money to a charity.
