Americans LOVE pizza! And, let’s face it…it isn’t exactly the healthiest food in the world. With Americans currently facing an obesity crisis, most pizzas don’t help much in weight loss. Pizza Hut is paying attention and like some of the fast food companies, they are introducing healthier alternatives to the regular high fat pizza they serve.
Introducing the Fit 'N Delicious pizza that Pizza Hut feels will meet the needs of the growing number of consumers seeking lower-fat foods and have increasingly busy lifestyles. With half the cheese of the regular Thin ‘N Crispy pizza recipes, the healthier pizza have generous portions of tomato sauce and toppings that include fresh vegetables and lean meats. One slice only contains 3.5 grams of fat which will vary slightly depending on what toppings are selected. The regular pizza recipe at Pizza Hut is 25 percent higher in fat. Consumers can create their own pizzas or choose from one of the following recipes:
Good news for Moms! Pizza Hut will also be offering new, bagged, family-size salad kits in four markets -- Orlando, Las Vegas, Minneapolis (also Duluth and Rochester) and Salt Lake City beginning in November 2003. This comes as a result of research conducted by Pizza Hut that showed that Moms like to balance a pizza meal with a salad.
The salad kits offered by Pizza Hut, which serve a family of four, include romaine and iceberg lettuce, cabbage and carrots with ranch dressing available in regular and fat-free. One serving size of regular dressing (two tablespoons) has 10 grams of fat. The salads will be available for carryout and delivery and priced at $2.99 in the four markets.
Expect to see more restaurants like Pizza Hut following this trend of providing healthier menu items. Thanks for paying attention, Pizza Hut!
